Duarte, born in Évora, lived his childhood and adolescence in the village of Arraiolos. He began to sing fado as a joke, but in 1997 Duarte assumed a commitment to "a fado, as a space par excellence of his musical expression", developing researches of lyrics and music of the traditional fado, at the same time beginning to write and the Compose themes that are currently part of his repertoire, he starts to build his path as a "singer-songwriter".

 
In 2004 he presented his first album "Fados Meus" and, shortly afterwards, the theme "They say that my fado is sad" is written for the minor fado from Oporto of José Joaquim Cavalheiro Jr., which is part of the Collection "100 years of Fado", organized by the newspaper Público. In October of the same year, Maria da Fé and the poet José Luís Gordo invited Duarte to join the cast of the typical Senhor Vinho restaurant where he continues to sing.

 

During 2005 he participated in several shows, radio and television programs, having been distinguished in November 2006 with the Amália Rodrigues Men's Revelation Award. The jury emphasized that the young fado singer "holds qualities that sponsor a career".

 

In 2007 the Municipality of Arraiolos distinguishes Duarte with the Municipal Medal of Merit in the Cultural Section. In this same year he participated in the opening of the show Arena d'Évora, in the commemorative show of the 50 Years of RTP, among others, also the magazine Mais Alentejo attributed him with the prize  Mais Musica 07.

 

At the end of this year, he performed in a season of 9 concerts at the Polis Theater in Athens invited by the composer Evanthia Reboutsika and singer Elli Paspala.

 

In 2008 he performed at the Commemorations of the Day of Portugal in Guinea-Bissau and returned to Hellenic lands to perform at the I Festival of Mediterranean Music in Chios.

 

Duarte composes the theme that serves as a soundtrack to the film "Mistérios de Lisboa" directed by filmmaker José Fonseca e Costa, which was presented in 2009, as well as his new album "Aquelas Coisas da Gente" from which the theme "Mistérios de Lisboa" is the first single. In the same year Duarte presented his work at the Fado Museum and also on tour in Portugal, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

 

After being nominated 3 years in a row, in 2009 he won the prize Mais Musica of Mais Alentejo Magazine, being the most voted by the readers of this magazine, along with colleagues such as the Virgin Suta, Mafalda Veiga, Ana Sofia Varela and António Zambujo also in this category.

 

In 2014 he began the project of his most recent work published under his name "Sem Dor Nem Piedade", appearing in the Centro Cultutal de Belém (CCB) in Lisbon, France, Spain, Poland, etc. The album is released in May 2015 and received with great critics and enthusiasm by the public.

 

On February 20, 2016, Duarte publishes a CD in France that presents in the Theater of the Abesses and afterwards goes on tour in all regions of France as well as concerts in Portugal.
