Peste & Sida is a Portuguese rock band formed in the summer of 1986 in Lisbon. The band was formed by João San Payo (bass), Luís Varatojo (guitar) Fernando Raposo (drums) and João Pedro Almendra who joins the group to take charge of vocals; Orlando Cohen comes shortly after.

Peste & Sida participates in the 4th Rendez-Vous Rock Modern Music Contest, but in the mean time they recorded with the independent Transmedia and edit the Veneno LP in 1987. The band begins to give many shows and makes some first parts of the Xutos & Pontapés concerts, among others. Sai Porte-se Bem, the second album of originals in 1989. They also released the Maxi-single Reggaesida, in 1989 and already without Orlando Cohen. At the same time that João Pedro Almendra leaves.

The band prepares their new album, which comes out in April 1990, with the title Peste & Sida é Que é. Raposo leaves the drums and in his place enters Marco Franco, still in time to participate in the recordings of the next album of the group: Eles Andam Aí in 1992.
In 1993 the best Peste & Sida album is released, which is a sum of the two records recorded for Polygram. Enter João Cardoso (keys) and Sérgio Nascimento (drums). The group, with this new lineup, plays at Terreiro do Paço, in Lisbon, on the 25th of April, and presents a version of "Bully Bully", a classic of "rhythm'n'blues" titled "Bule Bule". In 1994 they participated in the disc and the concert in the José Alvalade stadium in a tribute to José Afonso with his version of "O Homem da Gaita".

Since 1991, the group has started a parallel activity under the name of Despe & Siga, interpreting Portuguese versions of rock classics. For a while there would be the Peste & Sida and the Despe & Siga, until João San Payo breaks up with the rest of the group because he is the only one who wants to keep the Peste & Sida. João San Payo tried the meeting with Orlando Cohen and Fernando Raposo making the soundtrack of Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment in a play at Teatro da Mala Posta. The meeting was not effective but there was some material that João San Payo kept and some will come out later on the album Toxic.

In 2004 the fifth album of the band comes out with the title Toxic. This author's edition, recorded at the Crossover studios in Linda-a-Velha, featured João San Payo (vocals and bass), Orlando Cohen (guitar), João Alves (guitar, vocals) and Marte Ciro (voice).

The band celebrated 20 years of existence in 2006, and during the tour they began to prepare the new work to present in 2007, the new work of originals that is called Cai na Real. In 2007 they publish the album Cai na Real and in 2011 Não Há Crise. Also in 2011 comes the compilation Peste & Sida - Mythical Bands II Volume 22 by Editora Levoir.
